The reading list is separated into three different sections. The first is the Introduction Section which should be used by the first time reader of CPI, Lean or Process Improvement principles to tell you what it is and general information on how it works.
The second section is the Advanced Section, which will tell readers how to use the tools and describes techniques in much more detail. This section is for Practitioners of CPI principles or those actively Facilitating process improvement efforts.
The third section is the Additional Readings Section which will give more background into Process Improvement efforts through the years. The book by Henry Ford is especially interesting because it shows the Principles of Lean were introduced back in the early 1920s in the United States, not in Japan after 1945 as many think was the case.
Finally, I have attached some links to Military Web sites that give details on the Military use of these techniques. These may only be functional for .mil readers.
I suggest a new reader start with the Introduction section.
